Having worked as a bodyguard in London for many years Mark Adams decided on a change of career and in 2012 moved back to Norfolk to become a Barrett & Coe franchisee, running his own studio under the guidance of the Barrett & Coe franchise.
Mark is a qualified Barrett & Coe photographer who has also achieved a Licentiate Qualification with the British Institute of Professional Photography (BIPP) and the Master Photographers Association (MPA).
Mark says, “The training I received by becoming a Barrett & Coe franchisee covered everything from practical photography to how to run a business. There is a lot more to running a studio than just taking photographs! The practical side of running a photography business involves marketing, administration, the day to day running of a studio, budgeting and sales etc. I feel confident of the service I can offer to customers because of the comprehensive training I have received, and the ongoing training I continue to receive now.
There is not really a typical day, and I love the fact that no two days are the same! I normally start by getting the studio ready for the day, preparing the paperwork for the customers I know are coming in that day, making phone calls and replying to any emails I’ve received. Each appointment lasts for an hour with shoots and viewings, so on a full day, I can have 7 or more appointments. Then I need to fit in editing, paperwork and ordering of images, plus other things!
The quality of service that my customers receive from me – and the images I take for them – will differentiate my business from the competition. You only get out of anything what you put into it, and taking images of babies/children, families and pets is an enjoyable way to spend a working day!”
Over recent years Mark has won numerous awards, including several winning entries in the Baby of the Month competition. Mark also achieved 2nd place in the 2018 Barrett & Coe Photographer of the Year awards.
Mark was able to relocate from his first studio to new premises, which were part of a renovation project, so this meant that he was able to set up the new studio exactly to his requirements. There is parking available and its located just out of the city centre, so easy to get to, as well as being on a bus route, all important considerations. The studio is fully equipped for baby, family, and pet portrait photography.
Mark continues “My aim is to continue improving and building my business, to make my studio the one that everyone wants to come to in Norwich, and I expect to be here for a while!”
